Growing up in rural Missouri, Rateliff saw good people trying to move. Rateliff released his fourth solo album And It's Still Alright in 2020. He drew inspiration for Redemption through finding familiarity with the film’s protagonist, Eddie. They released their sophomore album Tearing at the Seams in 2018.
